The forum will run for three days under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, GToday reported.

It will draw the participation of 30 of the world’s best calligraphers from sixteen countries, who will gather to write a complete copy of the book of God. Each of the calligraphers will write a part of the Holy Quran using Al Thuluth script, for the first time.

On the other hand, all the delegations participating in the forum and the jury members will arrive Saturday morning and will be received by the higher committee supervising the forum in preparation for a preparatory meeting in the presence of all jury members, who include: Mohamed Ozjay from Turkey, Abdul Reda Bahia Dawood Al Fargawi from Iraq, Dr. Obeida Mohammed Saleh Al Banki from Syria and Mohammed Al-Tamimi from Turkey. During the meeting, the members of the jury will review all the procedures related to the launch of the opening ceremony of the forum on Sunday in the presence of Sheikh Nahyan and a number of executive and cultural leaders of the UAE.

The ministry has set a number of rules for the calligraphy task, such as: the font to be used is Al Thuluth script, the scale of the pens, type of paper, as well as the unification of the quality inks taking into account its resistance to erosion and lasting for longer periods of time. The Ministry will keep the full version of the Holy Quran signed by all the participants in the forum, with the date of its completion and will become its property.

Afra Al Sabri, undersecretary at the ministry, confirmed that invitation to the event is open to the public for all the activities of the forum over the course of three days. Members of the public interested in Islamic calligraphy and those passionate about learning how verses of the Holy Quran are written by calligraphers are urged to attend the event.

"The invitation is open to the public to join the calligraphers over the course of three days while they are scripting a copy of the Holy Quran at the Intercontinental Hotel in Festival City Dubai,” said Al Sabri.

Al Sabri pointed out that the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development has completed its preparations of a huge exhibition which includes the ministry’s precious international works in the fields of Islamic calligraphy and ornamentation by international artists, which will also be open to the public on the sidelines of the Ramadan Forum for Quran Calligraphy.
