TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony is planned to be held in the holy city of Qom, Iran, to commemorate late Shia source of emulation Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Hossein Borujerdi.

The Azam Mosque near the mausoleum of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA) will host the event on Tuesday, June 26.

The ceremony is planned to be held after the Maghrib and Isha prayers.

It will be attended by senior seminary scholars, clerics, religious and political figures and representatives of grand sources of emulation, as well as people from all walks of life.

Prominent orator Hojat-ol-Islam Nasser Rafiei will deliver a speech at the ceremony.

Grand Ayatollah Borujerdi (1875 –1961) was a leading Marja (Shia source of emulation) in Iran from 1947 to his death in 1961.

Ayatollah Borujerdi made extensive efforts to enhance Muslim unity and established cordial relations with Sheikh Mahmud Shaltut, the then grand Sheikh of al-Azhar Mosque in Egypt.

Together, the two scholars established the “House for Proximity of Muslim Sects” in Cairo.
