TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Iranian vice-president said struggles against the Zionist regime in Arab countries’ in the past century did not get into the right path and they failed to achieve their objectives due to nationalist tendencies.

‘Nationalist Tendencies Prevented Arabs’ Victory over Israel’

Speaking at an international conference titled “Gaza, Symbol of Resistance” on Sunday, Ali Akbar Salehi, vice president and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, noted that Arab countries fought several wars with Israel in the 20th century, including the October 1973 war.

The Zionist regime had the backing of both the Western and Eastern blocs and that led to the defeat of Arabs, he said.

Also, another major factor that led to their defeat was the dominance of national tendencies in Arab countries, Salehi added.

In 2006, however, he said, Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement defeated Israel because the main factor here was belief in God, support for the oppressed and the motto of Allahu Akbar (God is Great), instead of nationalism.

Elsewhere, Salehi referred to some verses of the Quran and said the Zionist regime is not going to last long.

Looking at the verses of the Quran and Hadiths, we can say with certainty that the resistance will be victorious, he went on to say.

The “Gaza, Symbol of Resistance” conference was held at the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization in Tehran by the Society for Defending the Palestinian Nation in cooperation with the Quds news agency.
