TEHRAN (IQNA) – The mausoleum of Shah Cheragh in Iran’s southern city of Shiraz will host a mourning ceremony marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Sadeq (AS), the sixth Shia Imam.

Hojat-ol-Islam Ahmad Salami, an official with the Astan (custodianship) of the shrine, told IQNA that due to the coronavirus restriction, the ceremony will not be attended by pilgrims.

Slated for Tuesday evening, it will be broadcast live by the local TV channel, he added.

Hojat-ol-Islam Salami also noted that only parts of the holy shrine are open to pilgrims everyday from an hour after dawn to 11 pm.

Shah Cheragh is a funerary monument and mosque housing the tomb of the brothers Ahmad and Muhammad, sons of Imam Musa Kadhim (AS), the 7th Shia Imam.

The two took refuge in the city during the Abbasid persecution of Shia Muslims.
