Speaking to IQNA, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Reza Heshmati said if the contest is held properly, it could be a model for other Islamic countries to organize similar Quranic events.
He said the competition, which is held every two years, is an influential Quranic event as it creates an atmosphere of healthy competition for students of the Muslim world.
The competition helps to encourage Muslim youths to take part in Quranic activities, he added.
Hojat-ol-Islam Heshmati urged that special care be taken to make sure those who are invited to the international Quranic event have the required capabilities and skills.
He hoped that the next edition of the competition, slated for early next year, will be held at a higher level than the previous editions.
The fifth International Holy Quran Competition for Muslims Students is scheduled to be held in Iran in January 2015 by the Iranian Academics' Quranic Activities Organization.
The Iranian cities of Isfahan, Tehran, Mashhad and Tabriz hosted the previous four editions of the international competition.
