TEHRAN (IQNA) – Secretary General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought warned against the phenomenon of Takfiri terrorism, saying it poses a serious threat to world peace and security.

Ayatollah Mohsen Araki made the remarks while presenting a paper titled “Strategies for Fighting Takfiri Terrorism” at an international conference in Tajikistan.

He said some global arrogant powers have exploited the phenomenon to divide and weaken Muslim countries.

Takfiri groups have been supported by arrogant powers, the senior cleric noted.

He underlined that the danger of Takfiri terrorism is not limited to a few countries but has spread to many countries like France, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, etc.

In his paper, Ayatollah Araki referred to various verses from the Holy Quran to point out that according to the Holy Book, it is unacceptable to Takfir (consider as an infidel) a person who has declared the Shahada and that it is forbidden to shed the blood of innocent people.

“Therefore, in Islam, terrorism and Takfir of Muslims is prohibited,” he went on to say.

Elsewhere in his paper, Ayatollah Araki underscored the need for Islamic unity and efforts for proximity among Islamic schools of thought.

The counter-terrorism conference in Tajikistan was held on July 22-23 under the title of “Islam against Religious Extremism and Terrorism”.

It was aimed at raising Muslims’ awareness about the fact that Islam conveys the message of morality, tolerance and spirituality and that it cannot be linked to terrorism and extremism.
