Sheikh Abbas Qomi’s Lasting Works

TEHRAN (IQNA) – One reason why the works written by Sheikh Abbas Qomi have maintained their significance until today is his Ikhlas (purity of intention), a religious scholar said.

Seyed Javad Beheshti talked to IQNA about Sheikh Abbas Qomi’s works. Following are experts from his remarks:

According to Hadiths, if one works for the sake of God with pure intention, God will make it known even if it is done without others knowing about it. Many of us may want to become famous, be shown on television, or our stories be mentioned in newspapers. But there are some who do not seek fame. They want to do what pleases God and then God makes them famous. Sheikh Abbas Qomi is such a person.

He has become a lasting figure because he chose a relationship with God. According to Verse 33 of Surah Al-Fussilat, “And who speaks better than he who calls to Allah while he himself does good, and says: I am surely of those who submit.”

The infrastructure for relationship with God exists within us as we are naturally monotheist and love God by Fitrat (nature). Then a prophet, an Imam, a mentor comes and helps this burgeon. That is what Sheikh Abbas Qomi has done with his works.

He started writing his book Mafatih al-Janan with the Quran and then cited supplications from the Infallibles (AS). The Infallible Imams (AS) taught us supplications, telling us how to call God, what to ask from God, and from what dangers to resort to God.

I suggest that in order to make Mafatih a book that everyone reads and to pass it to the future generations, we should read Jawshan Kabir supplication when we want to call God. When we want to talk to God, we should read the Khamsa Ashar Supplication.

Sheikh Abbas Qomi has extracted these supplications from credible sources and collected them in this book.
