WASHINGTON, DC (IQNA) – The American Muslim community’s resilience was put on show when an overflow crowd turned out for the 29th annual banquet of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) this weekend,

CAIR’s 29th Annual Banquet

The crowd came to the banquet despite threats of violence by anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian bigots that forced the relocation of the event.

CAIR said the banquet raised a record amount of donations from attendees, online supporters and from local communities.

“We thank everyone who turned out for CAIR’s 29th annual banquet to support our work to defend civil rights and advance justice here and abroad,” said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad.

“We also have a message for the anti-Muslim bigots and anti-Palestinian racists who attempted to derail this important event: you failed. The American Muslim community’s determination remains unshaken and, God willing, we will continue to speak up for the human rights of all people, including Palestinians.”

He also thanked all the CAIR staff and volunteers who helped arrange the relocated event.

Awad asked those who were unable to attend the event, but who wish to support CAIR’s work, to donate through its website.
