IQNA – The success in organizing Iran’s International Quran Competition was the result of collective efforts in the field of Quranic activities in the country, an official said.

Iran’s 40th International Quran Competition wrapped up in Tehran on February 21.

Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mehdi Khamoushi made the remark in an interview with IQNA, a week after the conclusion of Iran’s 40th International Quran Competition in Tehran.

He said the international Quranic event has historical roots in the Muslims world.

Highlighting the competition’s special features, he said it has been organized for 40 years without any interruptions.

It was held even during the coronavirus pandemic when many countries suspended their contests.

Another feature is the number of contenders, the cleric said, noting that a record number of Quran memorizers and reciters from more than 110 countries took part in this year’s edition.

After preliminary evaluations and holding the first round, 90 contestants from 44 countries qualified for the final round, he stated.

Hojat-ol-Islam Khamoushi also highlighted the online process of judgments in the competition as an accomplishment in this year’s edition.

The quality of judgments in Iran’s Quranic event was also very high, according to the official.

Another major development was introducing the issue of education, he said, noting that the participants were offered educational points before arriving in Iran and afterward, which elevated the level of the competition and was hugely welcomed.

Hojat-ol-Islam Khamoushi went on to say that the Holy Quran is the pivot of unity in the Muslim world, stressing the need for Iran to become the flag-bearer of Quranic activities in the fields of recitation, memorization, and Quranic concepts as the Islamic Republic is the flag-bearer of Muslim unity.

Iran’s 40th International Quran Competition was held in Tehran earlier this month with the motto of “One Book, One Ummah, Book of Resistance”.
