In this round, the panel of judges at the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization's Quranic Affairs Center will assess the recorded performances of 138 men and women participants from 64 countries.

The preliminary round will last until January 2, 2024.

The qualified participants will advance to the main round, which will be held in Tehran from February 15 to 19, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Imam Sajjad (AS), the fourth Shia Imam.

Hamid Majidimehr, the head of the Quranic Affairs Center, told IQNA on Sunday that some 300 representatives from more than 100 countries had registered for the 40th edition of the competition, but only 138 of them had passed the initial screening.

He said this year's competition would be "competitive and challenging" as some countries, such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia, had sent high-quality participants.
