Iran is preparing to hold its 40th International Holy Quran Competition next month, an event that showcases the skills and talents of Quran reciters and memorizers from around the world.

Hamid Majidimehr, the head of the Quranic affairs center of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, which organizes the competition, hailed the event as “media-savvy” on Monday.

"We don't claim to be the oldest Quran competition organizer, as Malaysia has held 62 competitions, but we are proud to be one of the most technial and media-savvy ones," Majidimehr said at a meeting of the organizers committee.

He said that over the past few years, more than 40 international channels had partnered with Iran for the Quran competitions, and that this year, the number would increase to 60. He also praised the "positive cooperation" of the domestic media in previous editions.

The competition, which will take place in Tehran from Feb. 15 to 19, coincides with the birth anniversary of Imam Sajjad, the fourth Shia imam. It consists of the following categories: Quran recitation (for men) and Quran memorization and Tateel recitation (for men and women).

The preliminary round of the event began in late December, when a panel of judges evaluated the recorded performances of 138 participants from 64 countries.

At the same meeting, the head of public relations of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization, which oversees religious and charitable activities in Iran, suggested that the event should be held in a more lively and festive atmosphere.

"We Iranians are naturally vibrant and cheerful, as seen in the many celebrations embedded in our culture. The Quran is a divine gift that guides us to a joyful and fulfilling life. Therefore, I propose that we host the Quran competitions in a more jubilant setting. The more lively the environment, the more warmly it will be received," he said.

The International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran is an annual event that attracts Quran reciters and memorizers from different parts of the world. It aims to promote the Quranic culture and values, as well as to foster friendship and cooperation among Muslim countries.
