Farid al-Imadi a deputy Awqaf minister, said the prime minister of Kuwait will officiate the opening ceremony, which will be attended by some 200 Kuwaiti and foreign guests.

He added that 130 Quran memorizers and reciters from 70 countries will be taking part in the upcoming Quranic event.

Kuwait had invited 76 countries to send their representatives and 70 countries announced their readiness to participate in the competition, the official stated.

He said top winners will receive cash prizes totaling 152,000 Kuwaiti dinars.

According to Imadi, what distinguishes the international competition in Kuwait from those in other countries is categories such as memorization of the Quran with mastery over the ten Qira’at (recitation styles) and memorization of the entire Quran for kids aged 8 to 12.

There is also a new category included in this year’s edition which features the best service to the Holy Quran, he noted.

Iran will take part in Kuwait’s international competition with three contenders.

Shoja Zuwaidat from Khuzestan province will vie for the top title in memorization of the entire Quran along with observance of the ten styles of recitation, while Ali Gholamazad from Zanjan province and Reza Rezaei from Gilan province will represent Iran in the memorization category and teenagers section respectively.
